Natural materials for
a natural sleep

Quality and sustainability go hand in hand. That is why we use renewable resources and
exclusively all-natural materials to create perfect sleep. The finest pure flax, wool and cotton,
the highest quality pine from Sweden, and genuine, hypoallergenic horsehair.

CREATING THE SLEEPING CONDITIONS FOR YOU

If you were to chop open up a few beds, you would be surprised to see how different they are. Especially if one of them was a Hästens. “Does a bed really need that many layers?” you might ask. “Does it really matter how you combine the materials in a bed?” With more than 160 years of experience and knowledge in bed engineering, we know the answers are all “Yes”.

All-natural materials have properties and benefits that work differently depending on how they are used and layered. For example, when horsehair is divided into several layers and membranes of cotton and wool placed in between, the materials have greater room to move. This lends greater pliability and more comfortable support. And the horsehair itself has a capillary action that sucks up the moisture your body produces during sleep to keep your temperature regulated.

Hästens beds all feature individual combinations of the different layers of natural materials. The dimensions and proportions of each layer are also different to obtain the perfect design and comfort properties for each individual model.

Natural materials allow the bed to breathe, circulating air around your body to create perfect sleeping conditions. Every single curled horsehair strand works as a miniature spring, enhancing the work of Hästens internal spring systems, while transporting moisture and unwanted heat from your body.

Each bed’s layers are optimized according to the results of countless qualitative tests and mechanical calculations to maximize the benefits from the properties of our natural materials. No matter how you sleep, there's a Hästens bed perfectly constructed for you.

A NATURAL CHOICE

Choosing a Hästens bed is the most natural thing in the world. You get to sleep in a healthy environment that allows natural air circulation and transports moisture away – all free from foam rubber, polyurethane and latex.

In our informed opinion, natural materials like cotton, wool, flax and horsetail hair are simply much better to have next to your skin than foam made from petro-chemicals.

Choosing a Hästens bed made from genuine natural materials will allow you to sleep dry on a well ventilated foundation in which the materials you have closest to your body are chemical-free.

IT’S GOOD FOR YOU, BUT OTHERS TOO

More and more people are becoming aware of the fact that certain materials are harmful to the environment, as well as to humans. Health and wellbeing go hand in hand with environmental and ethical responsibility, matters that affect us all. We feel it’s our responsibility to create and operate according to what is right and therefore adhere to a deep-rooted corporate and social responsibility program.

All Hästens beds are crafted with environmental awareness and meet the most stringent requirements. This is true both when the bed is made and when it is no longer needed. All the natural materials used in our beds are naturally biodegradable.

That said, Hästens beds can be recycled, upcycled or safely returned to nature’s own natural cycle. As the saying goes, a product that comes from nature wants to return to nature. A comfort for your body and soul and for the world we leave to our children.

Twenty five year warranty

Peace of mind for 25 years

All Hästens beds come with a 25 year warrantee, and with the right care will probably last much longer. In terms of environmental impact alone, this means you’re not buying a bed made from oil-based and synthetic materials once every four to eight years (depending on which retailer you’re buying from). In layman's terms, you can buy one natural, sustainable Hästens bed, or four rubber and latex beds. It’s your choice, but we hope you’ll choose wisely.
